2003 Santacon

Santacon 2003: Kayte, myself and about 300 other Santas (and other related creatures) started out pretty sober at Pier 23, but ended up totally plastered by 4pm. We started out by heading to Fishermans's Warf first to pay tribute. We had our pictures taken by hundreds of tourists and usually made children laugh, though I did see a few crying no doubt scarred for life by the foul mouthed, trans-everything santas. From there, it was on to Hooter's and caught up with some other
cool Santas. Then, off to a couple of other bars in North Beach which was lots of fun. By this time, I was damn bleary. After walking a ways into the financial district, we were shooed into an alley where someone had a truck with a mobile sound system in the back spinning tunes and there were about a hundred santas jumping up and down to the beat. To make things slightly more surreal, one santa was making corn dogs. Of course, Kayte and I had some. It was great - until the cops showed up. We fled and tried to figure out how we were going to sober over the next few hours. We walked around a had dinner before heading home for a nice nap and _lots_ of water. We felt well enough later to go out to the Camp LightBrite party at Rawhide in our same costumes, though after the adventure eariler in the day it seemed pretty tame.
I took some movies of Santacon, too!
